Katsina Govt Hails NAF Airstrikes Against Bandits in Shawu, Defends Ongoing Operations As Inevitable

The Katsina State Government on Thursday hailed the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) “for a highly successful airstrike operation” by its fighter jets that “decisively targeted a known bandit enclave in Ruwan Godiya district, Faskari Local Government Area” of the State.

Katsina State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, said that the “precision” airstrikes, conducted by the Air Component of Operation FARAUTAR MUJIYA , have “significantly degraded criminal elements’ operational capacity” in the area.

The operation, Dr Muazu said, demonstrates the NAF’s unwavering commitment to protecting civilians and safeguarding lives and property in the region.

Praising the operation’s meticulous planning using local intelligence, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs highlighted that the mission’s foundation was based on deployment of “credible intelligence and rigorous surveillance, which brought immediate relief to surrounding communities.

“The strike underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s professional approach to combating security threats.

“We commend the Nigerian Air Force for their exceptional performance and strategic intervention. This operation represents a critical step in restoring peace and security to our communities.”

In the statement, the Katsina State government urged residents to remain vigilant and supportive of ongoing security efforts, reaffirming its commitment to collaborating with military and security agencies in maintaining regional stability.

Speaking later in an interview with SaharaReporters, Dr Muazu stated that the airstrikes in the area especially in Shawu village, Ruwan Godiya district, Faskari LGA was not accidental but a precision strike targeted at terrorists and not civilians.

“Whoever told you that the attack was accidental lied. The bomb was dropped on purpose, terrorists were the target. Make no mistake about this, the Nigerian military is highly professional in its operations; they strike after surveillance and then getting the coordinate of their target before striking.”

“You see, Shawu has become notorious for harbouring bandits and other forms of terrorists, that’s why the area was targeted,” Mu’azu added.

In the same vein, the Faskari LGA chairman, Musa Ado Faskari said: “The airstrike was precise because bandits have infiltrated the community.”

When asked about the fate of innocent citizens living in the Shawu, he said: “It’s unfortunate that it has happened, but the truth is that there’s just no alternative to this. After all, majority of good people have left Shawu because of the heavy presence of bandits. Let me tell you, all around, when kidnapping for ransom is carried out, you’ll always get to hear that the plan was hatched in Shawu.”

Regarding fatalities, the Council chairman said: “Four deaths were recorded. As of the wounded, we’re still sorting things out to determine their numbers.”
