Shawwal Crescent Not Sighted In Nigeria, Fasting May Continue On Sunday, Says Sultan Of Sokoto

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared that the moon of Shawwal has not been sighted.

With the development, fasting will continue on Sunday and Eid-El-Fitr will be observed on Monday.

The NSCIA disclosed this in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, on Saturday.

He, however, added, “If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence would declare Sunday, March 30, 2025 as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Idul Fitr.”

Meanwhile,tThe crescent of Shawwal has been sighted in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid-al-Fitr.

The disclosure was made on the Facebook page of Haramin, an official platform for the Muslim community across the world.

“The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025.”
