Nigeria’s COVID-19 figures climbs to 41,804 from 267,842 tests

  • NCDC asks Nigerians to take responsibility, says no specific cure for COVID-19

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 624 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections was recorded in the country on Tuesday, bringing total confirmed cases of the virus to 41, 804.

The NCDC also said that Nigerians should take personal responsibility and protect themselves and their families from the virus, stating that there was no specific cure for COVID-19.

Obviously reacting to a claim on social media that went viral by a Nigerian trained doctor based in the United States of America that certain combination of drugs cures the virus, the health agency noted that some trial drugs show promising results but were yet to be validated for use.

According to NCDC, “in Nigeria, use of hydroxychloroquine is only limited to clinical trials. Please TakeResponsibility and avoid self-medication.”

The health agency also said via its official Twitter handle that eight patients died from complications of the disease on Tuesday.

The NCDC data noted that Nigeria conducted 267,842 COVID-19 tests as at Tuesday, registering 22,172 active cases out of the 41,804 confirmed cases.

In addition, 18,764 patients have been treated and discharged while 868 deaths have been recorded in 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The NCDC data noted that Lagos, the nation’s COVID-19 epicentre, reported 212 new infections while Oyo reported 69.

Among other States with new cases were Niger (49), Kano (37), Osun (37), FCT (35), Plateau (34), Gombe (33), Edo (28), Enugu (28), Ebonyi (17), Delta (10), Katsina (9), Ogun (8), Rivers (7), Ondo (5), Kaduna (4) and Nasarawa (2)
