FCT leads with 96 new infections as Nigeria records 42,689 confirmed cases from 276,053 sample tests

Nigeria recorded 481 Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Thursday, thus bringing the nation’s confirmed cases to 42,689, just as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has called on Nigerians to take preventive measures against the virus as they celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivals.

The NCDC said via its official Twitter handle that as Nigerians celebrate, they should remember that COVID-19 is not yet over.

The health agency admonished all Nigerians to “wear a face mask, wash hands frequently and avoid large gatherings. You might come in contact with infected people with no symptoms. Take responsibility to stay safe as we all celebrate Sallah safely.

“The virus that causes COVID-19 can live on surfaces for several hours. Take responsibility by avoiding sharing personal items such as Quran, prayer mats and ablution kettles.”

The NCDC said that the 42,689 confirmed cases came from 276,053 Nigeria’s total sample tests.

The data also shows that out of the confirmed figures, 22,541 active cases are on admission, 19,270 cases have been treated and discharged while 878 deaths have been recorded in 36 States of the federation and the FCT.

On Wednesday, Nigeria recorded 404 COVID-19 infections, thus bringing total number of confirmed cases to 42,208. There was also 22,331 active cases, 19,004 patients that were treated and discharged while 873 deaths was recorded.

The data also shows that the 42,208 confirmed cases came from the total number of 272,748 Nigerians who have been tested for the virus.

Data from the NCDC shows that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is leading with fresh COVID-19 infections with 96, followed by Lagos- 89, Plateau-68, Ogun-49, Edo-44, Rivers-43, Oyo-25, Osun-23, Delta-15, Enugu-11, Kano-7, Kaduna-7, Bauchi-2, Bayelsa-1 and Yobe-1.
