… As Oshiohmole’s men shop for his replacement.
The fierce battle between the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his erstwhile political son and Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, is not ending anytime soon.
This is because the hope of Governor Obaseki to use his colleague Governors to arm twist the National Chairman to agree to his second term ticket may not be working out as planned, after all.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has put the gubernatorial election for Edo State for September 19, 2020.
The Commission in the timetable put the conduct of gubernatorial primaries and the resolution of crisis arising from it is to hold between June 2nd to July 27th 2020.
Global Upfront News (GUN) learnt from close associates of Comrade Oshiohmole that something deeper is in the offing that will sweep the Governor off his political turf.
An inside source told the GUN that the Oshiohmole group is already shopping for Governor Obaseki’s replacement as the APC Governorship candidate as they are certain that he would not be able to scale through the hurdle that is being lined up on his way.
“Obaseki knows that he has strong issues to tackle about his past and shouldn’t have indulged in such fight, But since he has decided to join the fray, he should be ready for what may follow when residents in glass house decides to throws stones,” the source said.
When asked what the hurdles are, the source said: “Just wait. Very soon, all the arrogance of the Governor will die down because he knows the baggage he is carrying that will certainly not scale through good testing. If his followers do not know, the Governor knows what he is carrying and very soon his supporters will know that they have no candidate.”
But when GUN spoke to a source from the Governor’s camp, he declined to respond, saying that there is ceasefire currently in place in the battle and would not want to breach it.
He however said that he does not know of any concocted hurdle that will stop an incumbent Governor who has performed very well from being given a second term.
According to him, “what will stop Governor Obaseki from going for second term is only God and the people of Edo State. It is not some group of individuals arrogating to themselves the powers not available to them.”
