Nigeria records 36,663 confirmed cases with 556 new infections

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that 556 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections were recorded on Sunday, thus bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 36,663.

NCDC said via its official Twitter handle out of the 36,663 cases, 15,105 persons have been treated and discharged while 789 deaths have been recorded so far in the country.

The health agency also noted in its update on Coronavirus infections that the 556 new cases were recorded across 17 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, Edo States have bumped Lagos State with the highest infection figure of 105 with Lagos State coming second 97 infections while the FCT had 70 new infections.

Others are Benue – 66, Oyo – 61, Kaduna – 38, Plateau – 28, Osun – 19, and Akwa Ibom – 14. Three States – Rivers, Katsina, and Ondo, reported 13 new infections. Ogun, Kano, and Nasarawa States recorded six, five, and four cases each while Gombe and Ekiti recorded two cases each.

The government said it was working hard to test and treat those who may have been infected with the virus.

It then advised Nigerians to be cooperative and to avoid discrimination against those who have been visited by public health officials.

“They need your support and care,” it said.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to observed physical distancing to help reduce the spread of the virus to others.

“Avoid contact with droplets when an infected person sneezes/coughs. Wear a face mask, observe physical distancing, and wash your hands with soap frequently,” it advised.
