Boko Haram kills 6 soldiers, wounds 8 in attack on Chibok village

Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday stormed a Nigerian Army base in Kuda, Chibok, in the Southern part of Borno State, killing seven persons including six soldiers.

Kuda village is just 3 kilometres away from Chibok town.

Chibok is a Local Government Area of Borno State with headquarters in the town of Chibok.

It has an area of 1,350 km² and a population of 66,105 at the 2006 census.

Chibok was made popular by the April 14 2014 Boko Haram attack where nearly 300 school girls were abducted. Over 100 of the Chibok Girls Secondary School students are still unaccounted for as they are still held as hostages by the terrorists’ group.

Sources said that the terrorists stormed the military settlement in Kuda, near Chibok town at exactly 4:30 pm on Sunday evening, engaging the troops in a gun battle and killing six soldiers, including a Master Warrant Officer.

A member of the vigilante group, Yohanna Bitrus said the attackers burnt down houses numbering 40 and carted away three vehicles after they had looted the whole community.

According to Bitrus, “the terrorists came in large numbers to attacks our soldier’s station in Kuda. They overpowered the soldiers and killed six soldiers and wounded 8 others.

“A woman was burnt in her house too. They equally burnt down more than 40 houses after they have looted the foodstuff and livestock.

“The federal government should urgently help us, we need more soldiers and equipment to be able to face these terrorists.”

A military source who confirmed the attack stated: “Yes, there was attacked on troops location yesterday (Sunday). Our gallant troops fought hard but we lost some soldiers and others were wounded.”
