Former Director General of Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and Nigeria’s Ambassador to United States and Israel, Professor George Obiozor, has emerged as the new President-General of the Igbo apex organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo.
The election was held at Dan Anyim stadium, Owerri, the Imo State capital on Sunday.
This was as other candidates for the position of the President General boycotted the election.
According to the total tally of the votes for the man to replace Chief John Nnia Nwodo as Ohanaeze President, Professor George Obiozor polled a total of 304 votes to defeat his opponent, Chief Valentine Oparaocha, who polled 15 votes.
According to the details of the election, Abia delegates voted in favour of Professor Obiozor with 47 votes and no vote for his opponent.
Anambra delegates voted in favour of Professor Obiozor with 41 votes while his opponent, Chief Oparaocha got one vote.
For Delta State delegates, Obiozor got 17 Votes while Chief Oparaocha got one vote.
Ebonyi State delegates voted in favour of Professor Obiozor with 53 votes while his opponent got no vote.
Enugu State delegates voted in favour of Professor Obiozor with 40 votes while Chief Oparaocha got one vote.
Imo State delegates voted in favour of Professor Obiozor with 42 votes while his opponent got no vote.
Rivers State delegates voted 21 in favour of Professor Obiozor as his opponent got no vote.
For the Ohanaeze Affiliate Associations’ delegates and Ohanaeze Diaspora delegates, they voted 43 in favour of Professor Obiozor while his opponent, Chief Valentine Oparaocha got 12 votes.
