#June12thProtest Trending No 1 in U.S.

The June 12 protest, under the hashtag, #June12thProtest, is trending on Twitter in the United States of America, no thanks to the ban of the microblogging platform in Nigeria and the migration of Nigerians to Virtual Private Network (VPN) mostly based in U.S.

The protest is the Number One topic across the U.S. Twitter platform with 432k (Four Hundred and Thirty-Two Thousand) tweets already in the last few minutes.

Clearly, Nigerians and their friends are set to sustain the protest as the Number One topic in the U.S for Saturday.

Already, the feat is being lauded. For example, NEFERTITI @firstladyship stated: #BuhariMustGo is the No 1 trend in US. #KeepitOn & #DemocracyDay are also trending. Nigerians are not alone. Jack, diaspora Twitter, the world is with Nigerians. Buhari is global now. #June12thProtest is going to be massive, bigger than #EndSARS protests. We move!!”

According to a source, “the ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria has been a blessing for Nigerians who are protesting the injustices, insecurity, corruption and general lack of governance ethics in the country. When most Nigerians migrated to VPN in order to evade the ban in Nigeria, they exported the protest and all local issues and made them global.

“Who would have believed that few hours to the protest here in Nigeria, it would be the Number One Twitter topic in the U.S. of all places. Look, if they take over the streets in Nigeria with their Police and other security agencies, we will take over the Twitter stratosphere and drive Nigerian issues worldwide. Whichever way, we are winning.”

The source noted that by driving their voices into global reckoning, Nigerian issues are set to get global attention.

In Abuja, the protest is being led by Yele Sowore from the Gudu Abuja Protest Ground #June12thProtest.

“In Port Harcourt the Rain can’t stop us. We are a different breed of Nigerians. We did it during the #EndSars protests, we will do it again during the #June12thProtest. #KeepitOn

sophia @90sSophie said: “We are stronger together. Nigeria will be great. #June12thProtest.”

EiE Nigeria @EiENigeria said: “There is nowhere in our law that security agencies are empowered to attack & arrest peaceful protesters. The right to peaceful assembly & association is fully guaranteed by the constitution. The government must respect that & understand it in that context. #June12thProtest.”
