ISWAP terrorists kidnap two cholera immunisation campaign workers in Biu, Northeast Nigeria

  • Release them after locals intervened, but confiscated their medicines, vehicle

The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have abducted two Cholera aid workers in Biu LGA of Borno State.

Sources said that the terrorists on Sunday August 1 stormed the town on motor cycles and a vehicle, abducted the two staff members of Biu Local Government Area (LGA) Primary Health Care department.

Apart from being staff of Biu LGA, they are also field volunteers for an Intergovernmental Organisation (IO) and they had gone to the location to carry out activities linked to a cholera immunisation campaign when they were abducted.

It was learnt that the terrorists accused the abducted workers of spying for the government and left the location with them without harming anyone.

The locals in the abducted area had to go to the ISWAP camp to vouch that the victims were in the village to assist in curtailing the outbreak of cholera epidemic that is prevalent in the area.

Sources stated that after the conversation between the terrorists and the locals, the abductees were released around 6pm on Sunday.

However, before releasing them, the ISWAP terrorists took the drugs they were using to administer to the local and the official vehicle belonging to the LGA Primary Health Care Department.
