- Arrests gun-runner supplying weapons to kidnappers in Abuja
The Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists along the Monguno-Gajiram road, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria, killing four of the terrorists.
Sources confirmed that the troops were conducting routine patrols along Gajiram general areas when the terrorists ambushed them. The ambush was successfully repelled.
And apart for the four killed, many other terrorists fled with multiple gunshot wounds.
But a soldier sustained a shoulder injury during the clearance operation and is currently receiving quality medicare at a military facility.
The source noted that he is in a stable condition.
The troops recovered three Ak-47 rifles, 10×7.62mm special rounds, 1×36 HG, 1 X Magazine Carrier, assorted drugs, one hair comb, one car charger, two touch lights, one techno phone set, and a bag of beans from the fleeing terrorists.
This is just as the joint ground and air surveillance patrols have been intensified along the Gusau – Tsafe – Yankara Road in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria as the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Police and other security forces move to provide adequate security in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.
The renewed patrol followed various reports of threat by bandits who have been attacking the area.
The Police have appealed to members of the public to remain calm and to continue with their normal legitimate business as the regular patrols take place.
The people have also been urged to equally support the security operatives with credible information about the activities of criminal elements in the area for prompt action.
And in the nation’s capital, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested Matthew Vaaswem, who it said specialises in supplying weapons to kidnappers and other criminal gangs operating along Tungan Maje in the FCT and Gawu axis of Niger State, an area prone to endless attacks of kidnapping gangs and abduction of people.
FCT Police Spokesperson, Yusuf Mariam, said the gun-runner was arrested at Tipper-Garage, Gwagwalada by operatives of the Gwagwalada Division and was found with two single barrel Dane guns and two locally fabricated short guns.
The Police Spokesperson also stated that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, working in conjunction with vigilantes and hunters rescued three hostages along Sabon Gari and Shapete Villages of Kwali axis.
