I got into trouble, left Nigeria for supporting EndSARS campaign, says Davido

Nigeria’s music sensation, Davido, whose song ‘Fem’ was the anthem for the #EndSARS protests, says he got into trouble and had to leave Nigeria because of his support for the campaign waged by Nigerian youths in October last year to end the brutality of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies.

Davido, who was a firm supporter of the #EndSARS movement said on Wednesday during a chat on U.S. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah when asked on how ‘Fem’ became an anthem for the protests that he “did not record the song thinking the protest was going to happen.”

Relishing the experience, he said he found his voice serving as an instrument for the people amazing.

Narrating the downsides that came with his support, Davido said: “I got into a lot of trouble. I had to actually leave the country. It was that bad.

“I was reposting everything that had to do with the campaign. It was amazing to see people come out like that.”

“And I will say this: they listened to us. They heard us. They might not have changed anything but they were shook.”
