Residents Celebrate as Military Destroy Gando Forest Terrorists’ Camp, Kill Scores of Fighters in Zamfara State, Nigeria

Residents of in Gwashi, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, and in some forests in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, trooped out in celebration as troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria attacked and destroyed the Gando Forest camps of the terrorists, killing scores of their fighters and recovering many rustled cattle.

The residents could not contain their joy as they burst out in songs of celebrations as the military took battle to the terrorists who have been having a field day tormenting them without major gun battle being returned to them.

The terrorists were so sure of their command of the area that a few days ago, they demanded a huge sum of N34 million as levies from four communities in Kairu district under Bukkuyum Local Government Area, with a threat to unleash brutal attacks should any of the communities fail to comply.

One of the celebrating residents from Kairu community, Abdulahi Yahaya Kairu, while reacting to the victory of the troops, said the military exhibited professionalism in the process.

Kairu said the residents have been under serious threat for years as the terrorists/bandits continued to extort money from them at will.

They therefore appealed to both the Federal and the State governments to allow the troops to remain in the axis as the the terrorists may likely return if the military operatives are no longer there.

“In fact, the military operatives have saved us from these notorious bandits who have formed their own government in the axis,” he added.

In January, 2022, the terrorists attacked four villages in Anka and Bukkuyum LGAs of the State, killing over 58 villagers.
