Tragedy struck in Biaji area of Kubwa, Abuja this Sunday morning when a lady allegedly set her lover’s house on fire while both of them were inside in an attempt to kill herself and her lover after a heated argument.

It was learnt that the two lovers have been dating for over four years with intention of getting married but as years gone by and marriage could not happen.

The lady then became agitated and this resulted to quarrels.

Sources confirmed that the lady has been staying in the man’s house as if they were already married.

A source said that early on Sunday morning, the lovers who are from the South West region of the country, engaged in serious altercation and the lady in annoyance locked the door of their apartment and set the house on fire.

The man, it was said snatched the key from her and ran out but she jammed the door again while inside as the fire raged and gutted completely that section of the apartments made up of four flats.

It was the arrival of men of the Fire Service and neighbours who were yet to go church that saved the opposite apartment of five flats from being gutted by fire.

Some of the occupants of the flats have gone to their villages for the last Christmas and New Year celebrations and in the houses that were affected, nothing was removed from their homes, not even a pin said eyewitness.

“It would have been worse if not the spirited efforts put by neighbours who rolled all the cars in the compound outside the gate to avoid being caught by the fire as some of the car owners have travelled,” said our source.

According to the eyewitness account, the lady was later pulled out of the house after the door was forced open and rushed to a hospital in Kubwa but nobody was sure if she was still alive.

Sympathizers gathered in the big compound and outside discussing the tragedy at the time of this report. Nobody could say if the matter has been reported to the Police.
