House Of Reps Praise Tinubu For Fuel Subsidy Removal, Ask Nigerians To Pray For Faithful Implementation

As Nigerians are feeling the bite of the petroleum subsidy “removal” by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the House of Representatives has backed the move, asking Nigerians to pray for the implementation of the policy.

The House, in a motion of urgent public importance moved Tuesday by Abdulraheem Olajide, praised President Tinubu for making the pronouncement on Monday.

President Tinubu, in his inaugural speech at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Monday, had announced that “fuel subsidy is gone.”

According to Tinubu: “Subsidy can no longer justify its ever-increasing costs in the wake of drying resources. We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, health care and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions.”

In moving the motion, Olajide said the House must support Tinubu in the subsidy removal because he campaigned to do so.

“The legislature must support the President in delivering dividends of democracy, which will go a long way in enhancing development because he asked for it and campaigned for it. And he is ready for the task ahead,” he said.

Consequently, the House resolved to appeal to Nigerians to remain patient, resilient, and prayerful so that the President can deliver on his promises.

Femi Gbajabiamila also prevented members from debating the motion, despite their requests to speak.
