Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, on Monday morning denied issuing any statement on her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) status as a serving Minister.
In a statement by Deputy Director, Press Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Hannatu Musawa said she has not released any official statement regarding the aforementioned matter and asked the public to be cautious of unverified information.
She expressed appreciation to the support, solidarity, and understanding of Nigerians in these times, and insisted that she had not issued any statement on the issue.
During the run up to the 2023 Presidential election, Hannatu, daughter of veteran politician, Alhaji Musa Musawa, was the Deputy Spokesperson of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s All progressives Congress/Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC).
The statement reads: “The attention of Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, Hon. Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, has been drawn to a recently circulating piece titled:
“MY PERSONAL STATEMENT ON MY NYSC STATUS AS A SERVING MINISTER. The piece is inaccurately associated with her in relation to the current NYSC discussion.
“The Hon. Minister clarifies that she has not released any official statement regarding the aforementioned matter and kindly asks the public to be cautious of unverified information.
“I deeply value and appreciate the support, solidarity, and understanding of Nigerians in these times. For clarity, I wish to state that I have not issued any statement on the current issue.”
Hannatu Musawa has been stirred in controversy. Despite this, the Senate asked her to ‘bow and go’ despite the controversy surrounding her National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
She was the last ministerial nominee to be screened during the confirmation hearing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 48 Ministerial nominees.
Instead of being questioned, the Godswill Akpabio-led Senate asked Musawa to “take a bow and go” without being asked any questions about her academic qualifications, including the controversy surrounding her NYSC certificate.
In 2020, the Senate rejected her nomination by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the Commissioner representing the North West at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) because she could not present her NYSC certificate.
Now, it has emerged that Ms Musawa, even as a serving Minister, is actually a serving member of the NYSC. She is currently serving in Wuse 2, Abuja with posting No. FC/23A/505.
