The Auxiliary Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Reverend Ernest Obodo, has urged voluntary agencies in Nigeria to emulate the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the February 27 election, Peter Obi, by investing in critical areas of human development.
The Auxiliary Bishop, who noted that Obi’s consistency in charity in critical areas even in and out of office deserves to be emulated by other donor agencies and privileged Nigerians, commended him for his standout initiatives aimed at making society better.
Noting his steadfast commitment to nationwide healthcare and education, Most Reverend Obodo said: “Obi’s consistent support both in and out of office, underscores his enduring dedication to national development through investments in crucial human development sectors.”
The Auxiliary Bishop’s remarks came when Obi visited Ndiagu, a very remote community in Ezeagu Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State where he made an additional donation of N10 million to Dominic Hospital Obinofia Ndiagu to help them equip the health centre which he has been assisting to build for the past 2 years.
“He has generously provided us with a N10 million cheque to assist in equipping the hospital to ensure quality healthcare delivery to the people. May God continually bless him,” the Bishop pressed.
Obi’s charity work is in his commitment to continue to care for the people and to invest in the critical areas of national development.
In making the donation, Obi recounted how he was informed by the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Callistus Onaga, two years ago, about the desperate need to build a primary health center in the area because they had access to none.
“When the appeal came that the health center had been completed, but not yet equipped, I decided to visit the community again to lend my support in equipping the primary health center. We must understand the crucial significance of this primary healthcare Centre to the community, where access to healthcare was previously unavailable. It was a long difficult journey coming here, but I am glad I made it.
“Though things are difficult, we should all continue to contribute to the development of the nation by investing in these critical areas of human development; health, education, and lifting people out of poverty, which will better the lives of our people. In our country Nigeria, no one should be left behind in our developmental journey,” Obi said.
