Bobrisky Scandal: FG Suspends Kirikiri Maximum And Medium Prisons’ Officers, Others

The Federal Government has suspended the officers in charge of the Maximum and Medium Custodial Centres, Kirikiri, Lagos State, following an audio leak indicating that crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky who was convicted of a crime and sentenced to six months in jail was given an apartment outside the Custodial Centre.

Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, said in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja that the suspension of the officers was to allow for further investigation on the various allegations, assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.

In a viral voice recording released on Tuesday night by Martins Vincent Otse (a.k.a VeryDarkMan), Bobrisky while alleging that some unnamed officers of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) collected the sum of N15,000,000 (Fifteen Million Naira only) from him to drop money laundering charges against him, also claimed that he never spent a day in prison after he was convicted and sentenced to a six-month imprisonment.

On Wednesday morning, Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo had on Wednesday initiated a probe of the allegations.

The CDCFIB Secretary, in the statement on Thursday said: “Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service.

“Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State.

“Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.

“In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje- Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.”
