In a post on X the Israeli military said: “One year ago today, our country’s history was forever changed.”

It linked to an IDF post from this time last year that warned residents to stay in their homes, as Hamas fighters had “infiltrated Israel from Gaza.”

Meanwhile, a memorial service was held at the site where the Nova music festival was held this time last year in Israel.

The local time is just after 6am in Reim, in the south of the country (4am in the UK).

People were seen gathering while it was still dark, while pictures of those who were killed while attending the festival were displayed.

At 6.30am (local time) it will mark the exact hour Hamas launched a series of co-ordinated attacks across Israel on 7 October 2023, which killed 1,200 people.

The festival was one of the areas targeted by Hamas fighters.

Meanwhile in Jerusalem, a protest outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence has also started.

Those demonstrating are calling on the government to safely return the remaining Israeli hostages who are still in Gaza.
