Miss Universe 2024: Grateful Chidinma Thanks Nigeria, Nigerians, Says “You Picked Me Up When I Was At My Lowest”

Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, Nigeria’s representative at the 73rd Miss Universe competition and the 1st Runner Up, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nigerians and Africans for their unwavering support, which she credits for her historic success at Miss Universe 2024.

The event, held at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Sunday morning, witnessed an intense finale between Adetshina and Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig. The two contestants battled for the prestigious title, creating a moment of high anticipation for the audience. Ultimately, Miss Denmark emerged victorious, succeeding Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, the Miss Universe 2023 titleholder.

Despite not clinching the crown, Adetshina’s journey remains a source of pride for Nigeria and Africa. Following the competition, the beauty queen shared her reflections and gratitude through an emotional Instagram post.

Adetshina began by acknowledging the critical role Nigerians played during her most challenging moments. She wrote:

“To Nigeria: THANK YOU is not enough for all the support you’ve shown. You picked me up when I was at my lowest. I’ve never opened up much, but I was ready to give up on my life, and you became my strength. On days I never wanted to fight, you gave me the strength to fight. I’m so grateful for each and every one of you for walking this journey with me.”

Her words highlighted the resilience and determination that defined her path to the competition, reinforced by the unwavering encouragement of her supporters.

Adetshina also extended her gratitude to the African continent, emphasizing the collective support she received from across its nations. She remarked:

“To Africa: thank you for showing your love and support. As much as I represent Nigeria, Africa fought for me. My voice, my story touched many and brought us together. This journey has taught me the power of unity. I want us to live in a society where we can all accept and celebrate one another.”

Her message underscores the spirit of pan-African solidarity and the importance of embracing unity in the pursuit of shared success.Concluding her heartfelt note, Adetshina made it clear that her journey is far from over. She stated, “This is not the end for me but the beginning.”
