127 Villagers Abducted, 6 Killed in Kebbi Bandit Attack As 3 Killed, 2 Injured in Kwara Mining Camp Reprisal Attack

At least 127 persons have been abducted and six others killed following a bandit attack on Danmuntari and Ali villages in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State.

Zagazola Makama understands that the attack, which occurred on May 27 at about 9 a.m., was reportedly carried out by gunmen suspected to be armed bandits who stormed the villages near the border with Zamfara State.

The sources confirmed the identities of those killed as: Malam Mudaha, Al’ameen Mohammed, Safwan Abubakar, Tanko Mohammed, Ibrahim Garba, Inno Mudaha (female).

The victims’ corpses were recovered and later released to their families for burial after undergoing autopsy at the General Hospital, Wasagu.

Police sources said that due to the nature of the terrain, response was delayed but a combined troops comprising the Army, Police Tactical Unit, and local vigilantes has now been deployed for rescue operations.

Meanwhile, three persons were killed and two others injured when suspected hoodlums attacked a Fulani settlement in Gaa Fulani near Bankole, Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on May 27, is believed to be a reprisal following the killing of one Shabba Ndabata, a Nupe man, at Ndabata mining site earlier in the day.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the camp, shooting sporadically and setting parts of the settlement ablaze.

In the ensuing violence, one Gambo Abubakar was reportedly burnt alive, while another victim, identified as Yabo, was shot dead. Two others, Abubakar Mohammad and Abubakar Tambaya, sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to Oke-Ode Maternity Hospital for treatment.

In response to the incident, police and other stakeholders’ convened in the community involving Fulani and Nupe leaders to forestall further violence.

Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the attackers, while security operatives have intensified surveillance to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area.
