Abuja, FCT: Troops Arrest Suspected Spy Near Presidential Wing Abuja Airport, 4 Suspected Impostors In Military Uniform Under Custody

Troops of 176 Presidential Guards Battalion, Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected spy found loitering around a restricted area near the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja (NAIA).

Security sources said the arrest was made at about 4:30 p.m. on May 9, 2026, during a routine foot patrol conducted by troops around the highly restricted zone.

The suspect was reportedly intercepted after being observed moving suspiciously within the vicinity of the secured area.

During a search, troops recovered a wallet containing two ATM cards, receipts, and several passport photographs.

The suspect is currently in military custody and is undergoing further interrogation to determine the motive for his presence in the restricted area.

Meanwhile, troops of the Guards Brigade Garrison have arrested four suspected impostors found wearing military camouflage in Gwarinpa area along Dantata Estate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Security sources said the suspects were apprehended at about 9:00 a.m. on May 9, 2026, during a routine security operation in the area.

Following their arrest, troops recovered one ballistic helmet, one fragmentation jacket, one dagger knife, two motorcycles, four mobile phones and other sundry items.

The suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Authorities said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal impersonation and other security threats within the FCT.
