Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to lead security experts, senior military officers, diplomats and government officials to unveil a new book documenting Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the North-East and the Lake Chad Basin axis.

The book book titled ‘Counterterrorism and Counterinsurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria,’ was authored by Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf (rtd), former Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
The public presentation takes place in Abuja on Thursday May 21, 2026 at the Sani Abacha Hall, National Defence College (NDC), Abuja at 9:00 a.m.
Apart from Vice President Shettima who is billed to attend as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler, others expected includes State Governors, members of the National Assembly, Honourable Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Service Chiefs, serving and retired military leaders, diplomats, scholars and other key stakeholders in the security sector.
According to the organisers, the book presentation will spotlight Major General Yusuf’s experiences, operational insights and lessons learned from years of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency campaigns against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the North-East region.
The publication, presented in two volumes, is expected to contribute significantly to national security discourse, military studies and the documentation of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.
The books will be reviewed by the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, who is expected to examine the strategic, historical and policy relevance of the publication.
Organisers said the event aims to deepen discussions on counterterrorism operations, security sector reforms, and evolving military strategies to address asymmetric threats in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.
Organisers said “the book is expected to offer significant contributions to defence studies, military history and ongoing national security conversations.”
