Accidental Shooting: Soldier Injures Colleague At Military Position in Borno State, Disarmed

A soldier serving with the Nigerian Army’s 25 Brigade has been detained following the accidental discharge of his weapon, which left another soldier injured in Borno State.

Military sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 6:00 a.m. on June 20 at Sierra 7, a military defensive location in Damboa Local Government Area of the state.

According to the sources, the soldier negligently discharged his weapon while within the military position, resulting in a gunshot wound to a fellow soldier.

The injured personnel was immediately attended to and subsequently evacuated to a field ambulance facility for medical treatment.

Military authorities said the accused soldier was promptly disarmed following the incident and taken into custody pending further investigation and disciplinary action.

The army reiterated the importance of strict adherence to weapons-handling procedures and safety protocols to prevent avoidable incidents within operational environments.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge are ongoing.
