Nigeria records 160 lowest COVID-19 new infections in 3 months, total confirmed cases rises to 53,447

Nigeria on Friday recorded marked the lowest figure in the country since the last three months with 160 new Coronavirus (COVID-19), with total confirmed cases rising to 53, 477.

On 28 May 28, Nigeria recorded 182 new COVID-19 new cases and 288 on August 4. One week later, 290 was recorded. Another low figure of 252 was recorded on August 25 and on August 26, the figure was 221.

It recorded the highest daily infection of 790 on July 1, 779 on June 27, 745 on June 18.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) also said via its official Twitter handle that 291 patients recovered from isolation centres across the country in the last 24 hours and were discharged. Also, there was death of any CODI-19 patients on Friday.

The public health agency noted that out of the confirmed cases of 53,477 in the country, 41,017 had been successfully treated and discharged while the death toll remained at 1,011 across the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Also, 11,449 cases are active and still being treated while the highest number of 22,707 being treated was July 31.

Stating that the 160 new cases were from 15 States, NCDC said that Plateau topped the list with 44, Lagos came second with 27 new infections, followed by Katsina – 18, Edo – 15, FCT – 14, Ondo – 10, Oyo – 9, Kwara – 6, Abia and Nasarawa – 4, Kano – 3, Ekiti and Kaduna – 2, Kebbi and Ogun -, 1.

Meanwhile, the agency said again that the reopening of places of worship did not mean that the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak had subsided.

“If you must gather to worship in the mosque today, take preventive measures to protect yourself and loved ones. Wear a face mask and don’t share personal items,” it said.
