Presidency confirms release of over 300 Jangebe abducted schoolgirls

The over 300 schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara State have been released.

Sources said the schoolgirls are currently in the palace of the Emir of Anka, awaiting transportation to Gusau, the State capital.

The schoolgirls, whose abduction has drawn worldwide outrage, were kidnapped on Friday by bandits dressed in military uniforms, were taken and kept in the forest between Dangulbi and Sabon Birnin Banaga in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to a tweet by Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant to the President, “317 kidnapped Jangebe School girls have been released safely. Kudos to the men and women of our @HQNigerianArmy and the @PoliceNG.

“Well done too, to the Governor and the Chief Security Officer of Zamfara State.”
