Nigeria recorded its highest single day fatality figure since the index case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) debuted on February 27, 2020 with a total of 53 deaths on Saturday.
And with the 53 death toll on Saturday, Nigeria’s COVID-19 related deaths is now 2,361.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) also said that it recorded 650 new infections of COVID-19 on Saturday as the complications arising from the spread of the Delta variant continues to fester in the country.
Nigeria also recorded the highest single day discharge of patients inflicted with COID-19 with 8,232 discharged on Saturday.
And with this, the health agency noted that the number of the country’s active cases of Coronavirus dropped from 18,210 on Friday to 10,575 on Saturday.
The NCDC added that it has conducted a total of 2,727,834 sample tests out of Nigeria’s 210 million population.
Altogether, a total of 178,047 cases have been treated and discharged while total confirmed cases is now 190,983.
The NCDC said through it verified website on Sunday morning that the 650 COVID-19 new cases were recorded in 16 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). And it was an increase from the 618 cases posted the previous day in Nigeria.
According to the latest NCDC data, Lagos State had the highest number of infections with 281 cases. Ondo followed with 95, Rivers had 80, Akwa Ibom (59), Oyo (24), Ekiti (22), Delta (20), Edo (18), Enugu (15), Bayelsa (14), Ogun (11), Kaduna (8), Plateau (7), Kano (6), the FCT (5), Gombe (3), and Abia (2).
