COVID-19: Egypt overtakes South Africa with 2,605 cases, 192 deaths

Nigeria’s new cases jump 35 to 442, 13 deaths

US leads the world with 34,641 deaths and 678,650 cases

Egypt has taken over from South Africa as the nation with the most confirmed cases and deaths, registering a total of 2,673 confirmed cases, 192 deaths and 596 recovered and discharged patients.

South Africa now has 2,605 confirmed cases, 48 deaths and 905 recovered and discharged patients.

Nigeria is a distant 12 on the table with a total of 442 cases, 13 deaths while a total of 152 has been discharged.

The total number of confirmed cases of VOCID-19 worldwide is now 2,183,921 with a record 146,873 deaths and 552,771 recovered and discharged.

The United States of America (USA) continues to lead the pack as the epicenter of the virus with 678,210 confirmed cases, 34,641 deaths and 57,844 recovered and discharged patients.

Africa has the least number of reported cases among the continents with 19,068, 969 deaths and 4,650 recovered and discharged cases.

According to the Tweet from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), “Thirty-five new cases of #COVID19 have been reported as follows:19 in Lagos, 9 in the FCT (Federal Capital Territory), 5 in Kano, 2 in Oyo. As at 10:20 pm 16th April there are 442 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 152 have been discharged with 13 deaths.”

The breakdown shows that Lagos is still maintaining its status as the epicenter of the virus in Nigeria with a total of 251 cases, FCT- 67, Kano – 21, Osun – 20, Edo – 15, Oyo – 13, Ogun – 9, Katsina – 7, Bauchi – 6, Kaduna – 6, Akwa Ibom – 6, Kwara – 4, Delta – 4, Ondo – 3, Enugu – 2, Ekiti – 2, Rivers -2, Niger – 2, Benue – 1 and Anambra- 1.
