Former Senate President, Joseph Wayas, dies in London, aged 80

Nigeria’s Second Republic President of the Senate, Dr Joseph Wayas, is dead

Dr Wayas, who was Senate President from 1979-1983, died in a London Hospital in the early Hours of Thursday.

He had in London for months, receiving medical care.

Dr Wayas was born on 21 May 1941 in Basang, Obudu, Cross River State. He attended the Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, Anambra State.

He then went to the United Kingdom where he studied at the Higher Tottenham Technical College, London, the West Bronwich College of Commerce, Science and Technology, Birmingham and Aston University, Birmingham.

Dr Wayas was a member of the Society of International Affairs at the Lincoln University, United States.
