Many Burnt Beyond Recognition on Boxing Day Carnage at Agulu Lake Bridge, Anambra State

Many bodies were burnt beyond recognition, while several others sustained various levels of injuries as a result of a fatal auto crash at Agulu Lake Bridge, in Anambra State on Sunday.

The accident involved a Truck, a Shuttle bus and another Mitsubishi L200 bus.

An eyewitness, Micheal Anochie told Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS)’s Emmanuel Chignata that the accident occurred when a Mack Truck loaded with chippings, lost control and hit the Mitsubishi bus from the rear. The impact was said to have been transferred to the opposite lane.

The eye witness said almost all the passengers on board the bus were burnt beyond recognition.

Fire fighters from the State Fire Service were at the scene, battling to quench the fire but the two buses and passengers on board have been burnt beyond recognition.

Federal Road Safety Corps officials subsequently moved the injured persons to an unnamed nearby hospital.

The exact number of casualties could not be ascertained during the whole chaos but it is expected to be no less than 20.

Efforts to elicit official Police response to the incident proved abortive as at press time.
