Nigeria Slams Fresh Terrorism Charges on IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

  • South East enters second day of lockdown as Kanu appears at the Federal High Court Abuja to face charges

Barely 24 hours before the scheduled commencement of hearing by trial Judge, Justice Binta Nyako, the Nigerian Federal Government on Monday slammed fresh terrorism charges against the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In the amended process it filed before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the government increased the counts in the initial charge it preferred against Kanu.

Kanu, who has been in detention since his abduction from Kenya and forceful return to Nigeria, faced seven treasonable felony charges, will now enter his fresh plea to a 15 amended charges.

The amended charges are marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015 and signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, M. B. Abubakar.

And the appearance in court is being marked by a lockdown of the South East region for a second day running. Monday was marked by the first lockdown of the week which was respected as residents, fearing violent attacks from enforcers who claim to be affliates of IPOB, stayed indoors for most of the day with businesses and other activities negatively affected.
