Update: Sack CBN Governor Emefiele Now Over N100 Million APC Presidential Primary Forms, SERAP Tells Buhari

A Non-Governmental and Nonprofit Organization, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded the immediate resignation of the Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, as he has now paid N100 million and collected the forms to contest the 2023 Presidential election on the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

SERAP said in a Tweet on Friday afternoon that engaging in politics while still the CBN Governor will surely conflict with his duties.

According to SERAP, “following reports that the CBN governor Mr Godwin Emefiele has picked the APC N100m presidential nomination form, we urge him to immediately resign his position in line with S. 9 of the CBN Act.

“Engaging in politics will conflict with/detract from his full-time duties.

“We urge President Buhari to exercise his power under section 11(2)(f) of the CBN Act to immediately remove the CBN governor Mr Godwin Emefiele over his engagement in partisan politics, contrary to section 9 of the CBN.”
