Defamation On General Buratai: Court Remands Self Acclaimed Kano Based Blogger

A court sitting in Kano State, presided over by Justice Halima A.B. Wali, has sent one Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu a self acclaimed internet blogger on remand in the Correctional Centre over defaming and tarnishing the good image of a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd).

Danshagamu, who is the defendant,  was dragged before the said court over allegedly sharing a video footage on his social media, where he claimed that the plaintiff, built  over 60 filling stations in Kano out of the arms deal proceeds.

Following sharing the said video footage, the plaintiff who is the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, directed  the police  to fish out the defendant to investigate the  claims.

After the police  arrested the defendant, he denied the charges against him and Barrister Farida Wada took the case before the said court.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister S.A. Abdullahi prayed that the court  grants bail to  his client, which the presiding judge objected on the grounds that the defendant’s offence  contravened  sections 371 and 115, as the said offence, can lead to three years imprisonment.

The judge also ordered that the  defendant should be sent to the state’s psychiatrist  to diagnosis the defendant’s brain whether he was in his actual sense, when he shared the said video footage.

The counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Hussaini Makari, while speaking to newsmen shortly after the court sitting, said that his client has also thrown  a challenge that if the defendant or any Kano State based citizen can  point out any filling station belonging to him,  he is ready to withdraw the case against the defendant.

Similarly, the counsel to the defendant, S.A. Abdullahi declined comments when journalists approached him.
