Ohanaeze Moves To End Insecurity In South East, 2-day Igbo Security Summit Begins September 28

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has vowed to use a non-kinetic approach to resolve security challenges in the South East region by appealing to people causing bloodshed to embrace peace.

The President-General of the Igbo apex sociocultural organisation, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, stated the group position in Enugu during a ‘World Conference’ it organised to announce the programme for the September 29 Igbo Day celebration on Saturday in Enugu State.

This is as the South East Summit On Security And Economy being organised by Governors of the region is scheduled to hold in Owerri, Imo State.

The two-day security summit is slated to hold on September 28, 2023 while the World Igbo Day will hold in Enugu, Enugu State on September 29.

The security summit will continue in Owerri on Friday, September 29 with breakaway sessions on security, economy and related issues. This will involve only invited stakeholders, professionals, technocrats and experts.

Chief Iwuanyanwu, who described the killings and bloodshed in the South East as ‘strange,’ said “as a father, I am tired of the death of my children. And they have given me the responsibility to lead them.

“Each time I hear anybody killed, I feel sad because most of them are doing what they are doing because of hunger and unemployment.”

“I am not saying that hunger and unemployment will make one a criminal but not everyone has the capacity to endure hunger.”

The Ohanaeze President-General maintained that the security of every place in Nigeria is a collective responsibility, pointing out that the Federal Government alone could not handle it.

He said that during the Igbo Day celebration, he would announce the non-kinetic approach to end insecurity in the zone.
