How SSG, Other Top Officials Escaped Unhurt As Troops Foiled Terrorists Ambush On Yobe Governor’s Convoy – DHQ

Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Monday explained how troops of 29 Task Force Brigade successfully foiled an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists on the convoy of the Yobe State Governor, Malam Mai Buni along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road on Saturday.

In a statement on Monday, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said troops from the Task Force Brigade led the operation to repel the attack about 6 kilometres from Benesheikh.

While Governor Mai Mala Buni was not part of the convoy at the time, the Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG) and some top officials were present but escaped unhurt.

The Defence Media Operations Director disclosed that one military armoured vehicle and one civilian escort car affected during the incident have been recovered at the base in Benisheikh.

Buba announced that troops, including the Brigade Commander, are currently conducting fighting patrols to hunt down and eliminate the terrorists responsible for the ambush.

Casualties from the convoy attack included one dead police officer and five other wounded personnel, including military, police, and intelligence escorts, who are now in stable condition at the hospital. Related News

“Reinforcement of troops from 29 Task Force Brigade led by the Brigade Commander are conducting fighting patrol in the area to locate the terrorists who carried out the dastardly act.

“The two vehicles affected in the incident include one military MRAP and one civilian escort vehicle whose tyres were shot at during the incident, have been safely recovered to the military camp at Benisheikh.

“Operations are ongoing to hunt and destroy the terrorists that perpetrated the attack,” he said.

the authorities say operations are ongoing to enhance security along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway and prevent the recurrence of such threats targeting government officials in Yobe State, plagued by militant activity.
