Nigeria@ 64: ALGON President Greets Nigerians, Recommits To Grassroots Development

The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, has reassured Nigerians that his Association is fully committed to grassroots development even as he felicitates with citizens on the occasion of the country’s 64th Independence anniversary.

In his anniversary message released by ALGON Media Officer, Obiora Orji, Maifata commended the sacrifices made by citizens for the peace and development of the nation.

Said Maifata, “We celebrate Nigeria’s resilience, unity, and democratic progress, reaffirming our commitment to patriotic values, grassroots development, and inclusive growth.

“We reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey, honoring the sacrifices that have shaped our nation. ALGON remains committed to fostering unity, peace, and prosperity, recognizing local governments as pillars of national development.”

In wishing Nigeria and Nigerians a Happy 64th Independence celebration, the ALGON boss prayed that “this milestone inspires renewed hope, unity, and progress for our great nation.

“The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) warmly felicitates with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council, the National Assembly, Governors of the 36 states and FCT, the Judiciary, 774 Local Governments and Area Councils, and the entire Nigerian populace, including civil servants, traders, market women, youths, organized private sectors, trade unions, mass media, and citizens both at home and abroad, on the momentous occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day,” he stated.

The National President commended Nigerian leaders and citizens for recognizing local governments’ crucial role in driving prosperity. This recognition according to him follows the Supreme Court’s grant of financial autonomy to the third tier of government.

He noted with satisfaction that more than “12 states have already conducted local government elections in just four months of the landmark judgement, demonstrating significant compliance for progress”, adding that about five more states will follow by year-end.

According to him, “ALGON remains committed to promoting accountability, good governance, and service delivery, aligning with internationally recognized standards in grassroots governance.”

He promised that ALGON would continue to conduct regular needs-assessments, due diligence, and oversight performance evaluations through its zonal National Executive Council.

“ALGON remains dedicated to empowering local governments, ensuring accountability, and fostering sustainable development, Hon Aminu Mu’azu concluded.
