Obidient Movement’s South East Good Governance Summit Ends In Anambra

  • Dr Yunusa Says Nigeria’s North is disappointed with President Tinubu

The Obidient Movement South-East Good Governance Symposium 2024 organized by Anambra State Support Groups ended on Saturday at the All Saints Cathedral Auditorium, Onitsha, Anambra State with the National Coordinator, Obidient Movement Globally, Dr Tanko Yunusa, saying that said people of Northern Nigeria who placed all their hopes on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the Presidential election are now feeling betrayed and disappointed.

Speaking during the summit, Dr Yunusa said President Tinubu has not only failed them but entire Nigeria and Nigerians, saying that Northerners have learnt their bitter lesson because even the sentiments of the Muslim-Muslim ticket which some of them were swayed with for votes could not help them as the situation in the country under the Tinubu administration has made life hellish for the citizens.

Yunusa said at the sponsored by the Valentine Chineto Ozigbo Foundation and Naija We Can that Nigerians are now retracing their steps to correct the mistakes they made during the 2023 election.

According to the Obidient Movement National Coordinator: “People have seen the difference now. Mr Peter Obi has said that the arable lands available to us in the Northern part of this country can be turned to produce. Can you imagine the whole of Niger State covers the whole of Southeast but yet it is not productive? But here, you have the southeastern states, each and every Igbo man is productive and that will translate into productiveness in the North and at the end of it all, we all can benefit from it.

“The people of the North are so disappointed with this present Tinubu administration because what they thought would be the Muslim–Muslim ticket did not favour them, neither did it put food on their table. Today, they have issues of insecurity, education, health and infrastructure decay to the extent that the only road that links us from the North to the southern part of the country, the Kaduna-Kano expressway has not been completed till now.”

At the Good Governance event, the Obidient Movement restated its commitment to advance accountability and transparency in governance in its determination to bid farewell to bad governance in Nigeria.

And as the 2027 general elections draw near, Dr Yunusa called on the South East region to reactivate its political and cultural resilience to fight for its rights over political marginalization.

He added: “We must form a formidable force to achieve our common goal, which is a better future for our country; thus, our collective efforts have given birth to the creation of the National Coordinating Council of the Obidient Movement; consequently, my nomination as the Interim National Coordinator.

“Therefore, through your support, we are making significant strides, organizing across polling units in the country and engaging with support groups. Our mission is clear: to ensure democratic leadership that serves the people.

Chairman of the event, Prof Chinyere Okunna in a remark said the Obedient Movement must build on visibility and acceptance noting that Mr Peter Obi whom the movement revolves around is a good leader, vibrant, grassroots oriented, accessible, humane, selfless, the type Nigeria needs to move forward.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Tochukwu Ezeoke said the Obidient Movement is being reinforced in its organizational structure, and unifying its mission to uphold social and political cohesion, ethical leadership, and purpose-driven advocacy towards emergence as a beacon of hope for millions, foundation for its next chapter and creating a platform for thoughtful dialogue and strategic planning across Nigerians.
