Relief comes to Magu, released from detention

Relief has come the way of Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as he has been released on bail.

Detained since Monday, July 6, 2020, Magu has been facing the presidential panel probing his activities in office

Details of his bail are still sketchy but he has gone home to his residence in Abuja.

Magu, known to be reluctant to grant his suspects bails while he was calling the shots at EFCC had battled the Federal Government for his release through letters to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu to grant him bail.

The IGP declined his request for bail claiming it was the Presidency not the police that held him in detention.

The former EFCC boss had also complained that he was not served with charges against him.

Beyond Magu, the President, Muhammadfu Buhari had gone ahead to suspend 12 other senior officers of the Commission to allow for proper investigations into allegations of fraud in the EFCC as contained in a memo against Magu by the Attorney-General of the Federation/Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Magu had denied any wrong-doing.
