Nigerians urged to avoid “all non-essential travels” as total COVID-19 figures jump to 42,208 from 272,748 tests

As Nigeria recorded 404 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Wednesday, thus bringing total number of confirmed cases to 42,208, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has asked Nigerians to shelve all non-essential travels to stem the spread of the virus.

The NCDC said that the rising number of COVID-19 cases in States across the country called for caution for Nigerians to avoid all non-essential travels.

According to the health agency, “travelling during the COVID-19 pandemic can increase your risk of getting infected. TakeResponsibility and adhere to COVID-19 preventive measures.”

NCDC also said via its official Twitter that five more persons have died from the disease.

The data also shows that out of the 42,208 confirmed cases came from the total number of 272,748 Nigerians who have been tested for the virus.

The data shows that there are 22,331 active COVID-19 cases, 19,004 have been treated and discharged while 873 deaths have been recorded.

The health agency said that out of the 404 new COVID-19 infections reported from across 20 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos had 106, FCT (54), Rivers (48), Plateau (40), Edo ( 29), Enugu (21), Oyo (20),  Kano (18), Ondo (15) and Ogun (10).

Others include Ebonyi (9), Ekiti (8), Kaduna (6), Cross River (5), Kwara (4), Anambra and Delta (3 each), Imo and Nasarawa (2 each), and Borno (1).
