DETHRONEMENT OF EMIR SANUSI: Musings to Reinvigorate “Restructuring Campaigns.” BY AYOKUNLE FAGBEMI
I have been studying the threads of commentaries on the Dethronement and Banishing of Emir Sanusi since yesterday. In my considered opinion the only lessons that we can draw revolves around the emergence and existence of the Nigerian-state. To wit, Nigeria is indeed a contraption that must be Restructured!
The legal and policy frameworks relied upon to act by KNSG, like was in the case of Sultan Dasuki and Emir Jokolo are rooted in the Chieftaincy Laws that derive their inspiration from Colonial and Trans Saharan agreements and pacts. I am aware that many feel they’re dealing with just the 1999 Constitution and as such they’re going to challenge the fundamental rights abuse from that level alone. My submission is the time to intensify the Restructuring Campaign is Now!
My plea however is that we can only achieve the meaningful goal when the contents of our soon to be adopted Constitution contains clauses that COMPLETELY state unequivocally that the Pre-1914 Treaties, Pacts and Agreements along with the 1914 Amalgamation instruments are ANNULLED, ABROGATED, DECLARED NULL and VOID with no further consequences and effects on the successor geopolitical entity!
Sirs/Madames, I so submit and plead.
