COVID-19: Presidency report Legislators to Speaker

……may embark on forceful isolation of defaulters.

As federal Government intensify efforts to contain the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, it’s considering using force to keep suspected carriers isolated for screening.

Chief of staff to the President Abba Kyari in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila dated March 21st 2020 complained that members of the House were disregarding the checking rules for returning Nigerians and visitors.

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has seriously doubted that any member of the National Assembly (NASS) would pass through the airport and refused to submit himself for COVID-19 screening.

In the letter titled ‘COVID-19- Airport Screening’ Kyari told the Speaker “As you are aware these airport screenings are our primary  line of defense and refusal by any citizen to subject to these texts is a threat to the nation”

He then asked the Speaker to direct his members who are returning from foreign trips to subject themselves to the text by reporting to their nearest NCDC center immediately.

The Chief of staff letter did not say what will happen next if they fail to heed the advice but Global Upfront News (GUN) gathered authoritatively that the option of forceful isolation is on the card  for defaulting Honourable members.
