The number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria has increased by eight, jumping to 89 from the figure of 81 recorded late on Friday night.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), “as at 04:00 pm 28th March, there are 89 confirmed cases with 1 death.”

The breakdown says that Lagos has a total of confirmed cases of 59, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – 14, Ogun – 3, Enugu – 2, Oyo – 3, Edo – 2, Bauchi – 2 and one each from Ekiti, Osun, Rivers and Benue.

This is just as Nigeria’s 43 Cabinet Ministers announced the donation 50 per cent of their March 2020 salaries to support the Federal Government’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the same vein, the Enugu State government said that the two patients who tested positive for COVID-19 “voluntarily contacted the Enugu State Ministry of Health, on arrival from United Kingdom (UK) and requested for the COVID-19 test which came out positive.”

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, quoted the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, who coordinated the donation, as saying it was a gesture of solidarity and support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the disease.

“This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another. This will facilitate an early resolution of the problem,” Alhaji Mohammed further quoted Senator Saraki as saying.
