President Muhammadu Buhari’s MOnday night second broadcast on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been received with mixed feelings.
In Lagos the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria angry youths took to the streets in some areas protesting the extension of the lockdown without any concrete palliative measures.
The President had in the announcement extended the earlier two-week lockdown of Lagos and Ogun states and FCT, Abuja by additional two weeks.
Global Upfront News (GUN) Reporter in Lagos reports that Shasha, Orisunbare, Idimu and Ejigbo areas were set on fire, with some aggrieved youths rioting.
The hoodlums took to streets, attacking innocent residents, robbing and breaking almost every shops and looting goods.
The development is a fallout to similar wave of attacks, robbery and looting being witnessed in Agege and some other areas in Lagos and neighbouring Ogun State around since yesterday
GUN correspondent in Abuja also reports that residents although had no issue with the extension but we’re very apprehensive that the restive youths particularly Okada riders will soon be riotous without any noticeable welfare package.
An Abuja resident Gideon Musa told GUN that the extension is good because it’s working, Abuja record is not increasing but if nothing is done to help these youths who make a living by what they do on daily basis, we might be in for a fresh trouble.
“Nobody should wish a stomach induced protest, because it knows not sentiment and the President failed to say anything concrete on this”.
‘It took the President 14 days to make a second broadcast yet he could not come out clear about palliatives. They are talking about reaching over 2 million and most Okada riders here in Abuja suburb are yet to be reached”
