Transfer window will not open on July 1 – FIFA legal director

By Taofeek LAWAL with Agency reports

The legal director of FIFA, the Spanish Emilio García Silvero, has stressed that due to the effects of the coronavirus crisis, the situation has changed and that on July 1, contrary to what has usually happened “the market will not open” for transfers.

FIFA cannot extend the contract of those players whose contract ends in June 30. Those Players will be free from July 1.

García Silvero acknowledged that FIFA cannot extend the contracts already signed beyond June 30 and, therefore, the players could leave their clubs. However, they could not join another team because the transfer periods are going to change.
