COVID-19: Death roll in U.S. now 28,554 as Nigeria’s confirmed cases jump 34 to 407

The total number of confirmed cases of the virus is now 2,084,222 with a total death tally of 134,669. Altogether, the total number of recovered and discharged is 519,090.

The Unites States of America (USA) leads the pack as the epicentre of COVID-19 with a total figure of 664,348 confirmed cases, 28,554 deaths and 48,708 recovered and discharged patients.

The figures are from the 210 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

For the 52 reporting member States of the African Union (AU), there are as of Wednesday a total of 17,827 confirmed cases, 913 deaths and 3,862 recovered and discharged patients.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has recorded 34 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 407.

According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the new cases were recorded in Lagos, Kano, Katsina, Delta and Niger States.


“Thirty-four new cases of #COVID19 have been reported as follows: 18 Lagos12 in Kano2 in Katsina1 in Delta1 in Niger As at 11:20 pm 15th April there are 407 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 128 have been discharged with 12 deaths,” @NCDCgov tweeted late Wednesday night. 

The breakdown by States include Lagos- 232, FCT- 58, Osun- 20, Kano- 16, Edo- 15, Oyo- 11, Ogun- 9, Katsina- 7, Bauchi- 6, Kaduna- 6, Akwa Ibom- 6, Kwara- 4, Delta- 4,, Ondo- 3, Enugu- 2, Ekiti- 2, Rivers-2, Niger- 2, Benue- 1 and Anambra- 1. 

The NCDC also announced the commencement of additional two new testing laboratories for COVID-19.

The two include DNA Lab, a private sector laboratory in Kaduna and at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri.

The two new laboratories bring to 13, the total number of COVID-19 testing labs in Nigeria.

The NCDC also said that two new ones are almost ready and they are located in Sokoto and Port Harcourt.
