Emir of Rano, one of Ganduje’s four new Emirs in Kano, Dies of Undisclosed Illness

One of the Emirs of the newly created Emirates in Kano, the Emir of Rano, Dr Tafida Abubakar Ila ll, is dead.

Rano Emirate is one of four new Emirates created in Kano in the wake of the balkanisation of the old Kano emirate by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje over his dispute with the former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II.

Though it is still not clear if the late Emir’s illness was related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) which is ravaging Kano State, the late Emir was taken to a hospital Friday, May 1, over an illness but died on Saturday at the Nassarwa Specialist Hospital at about 4:45pm.

Confirming the death to Daily Trust, Turakin Rano, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, said the late Emir was admitted at the hospital on Friday. Rurum, who is a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, said the emir would be buried on Saturday, according to Islamic injunctions.

The late emir is survived by 17 children and two wives.

A traditional title holder in Rano emirate who had earlier pleaded anonymity confirmed that the late Emir of Rano was first rushed to AKTH, but was referred to Nassarawa hospital due to lack of oxygen.

He said: “The vehicle conveying the Emir to Nassarawa hospital just left the premises of AKTH, the condition of the emir was critical at the time they departed AKTH. The Emir is in critical condition and from the look of things, the situation is alarming, may Allah protect us all.”
