COVID-19: Passengers must arrive 3 hours before flight time, FAAN says

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday said that intending passengers who would travel upon resumption of flights must readjust their timing and be at the airport three hours before takeoff time.

The aviation agency said in a tweet on Monday that this has become imperative in order to allow time for passengers to go through the necessary Coronavirus (COVID-19) checks needed before boarding flights.

According to the tweet: “#COVID-19 Flight Resumption Protocol for Passengers: You are advised to arrive at the airport three hours before your flight due to the new COVID-19 safety checks.”

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had last week announced June 21 as the tentative date for the resumption of domestic flights within Nigeria.

However, the resumption of flights, it noted, would be dependent on the readiness of airlines and aviation agencies to implement fully the protocols aimed at stopping the spread of the virus.

In an earlier announcement, FAAN said persons without face masks would not be allowed entry into the airport terminal building and also advised passengers to maintain a two-metre distance from one another.

Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN corporate affairs manager, also said escorts of VIPs will no longer be allowed to follow their subjects into the terminal, adding that such individuals would be subjected to all health checks.
