Gov Wike saves ex-NDDC MD/CEO, Joy Nunieh, from arrest by security operatives

Security operatives on Thursday morning came for a former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ms Joy Nunieh, but the timely intervention of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State stopped the arrest.

The operatives stormed Nunieh’s residence at about 4 a.m and allegedly attempted to break into her apartment for hours without success.

The embattled Ms. Nunieh was said to have reached out to Governor Wike who swiftly responded to her distress call and came with his aides to challenge and stop the arrest.

The Governor was said to have asked for the arrest warrant from the Police and other security agents who have cordoned the compound, querying them on why Ms. Nunieh was not invited over rather than storming her house.

Wike eventually asked the operatives to leave the former NDDC MD’s premise, an order which was grudgingly complied with.

The Governor, it was also learnt, rode with Ms Nunieh in his official vehicle to the Rivers State Government House where she is taking refuge from arrest and further trouble from the security men.

Ms. Nunieh had been a nightmare to Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs who she accused of harassing her sexually for which she had to slap him four times.

She also accused the Minister who was a two-term governor of Akwa Ibom State of cornering contracts from the NDDC.

Akpabio had denied the allegations.
