- Buhari given 4-week ultimatum to stem insecurity, corruption or face impeachment
House of Representatives members belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus have threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari over worsening insecurity and corruption in the country.
Leader of the Caucus, Kingsley Chinda who gave the notice in a statement also warned Buhari to stop what he called “calculated blackmail” against the National Assembly.
According to the PDP Caucus leader, the President was given four-week ultimatum “to provide security to Nigerians and commence proper cleaning of the embarrassing and notorious corruption cases at the EFCC and NDDC.”
Otherwise, he warned, “We shall revert to the relevant sections of the constitution and commence impeachment proceedings in the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.”
Chinda explained that the impeachment process would be initiated due to the behaviour of appointees of the executive arm who continue to show disrespect for the constitution.
