Nigeria conducts 256,038 COVID-19 tests, 39,539 positive

Nigeria’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) figures continues its unabated increase with the recording of 591 new infections on Friday, thus bringing the total confirmed cases to 39,539.

The 39,539 cases was out of the total number of 256,038 persons tested for the virus so far in the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said via its official Twitter handle that “regrettably.” 12 deaths were recorded in the country on Friday.

The NCDC said that out of the 39,539 confirmed cases, 22,135 are active cases, 16,559 have been treated and discharged while 845 deaths had been recorded in 36 States and FCT.

The NCDC data showed that the 591 new infections were 16 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Oyo State yanking off Lagos to take the top spot with 191 new infections, leaving the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria with 168.

FCT recorded 61 cases, Ondo – 29, Osun – 26, Ebonyi – 24, Edo – 23, Ogun – 14, Rivers – 13, Akwa Ibom – 12, Kaduna – 10, Katsina -6, Borno – 4, Ekiti, Delta and Imo each had 3 new infections while Niger had one
